East Wilkes Middle School Exploratory Sign-Up Sheet
-Every student will be automatically enrolled in physical education all year. This will be paired with health and computers. You will rotate through these classes all year.
-Every student will also have the option to choose what their other exploratory class will be. The options are listed in the chart below. Please read the facts and click the links to watch the videos about each elective exploratory option. You can only choose one option.
-Each rising 6th grade student needs to make a choice about what their exploratory class will be upon entering East Wilkes Middle School.
Please review the information in the chart below,read all information, think carefully, then complete the google form below the information chart by clicking the selection link.
The Google form will be available May 3rd - May 14th.
Every student will have the option to choose what their other exploratory class will be. The options are listed in the following chart with facts about each:
BAND
-Classes meet every day all year during the school day.
-Students will learn how to read music and play a band instrument. No experience necessary.
-Students will have several opportunities to perform with the band for various events.
-Students are responsible for acquiring their own instrument. There are rental options available through Music and Arts. They will come to school in September to assist those who are interested.
-Mr. Rash can help those who need additional assistance getting an instrument. Please do not make finances a reason to not join band. There are options for you.
-Instrument options (estimated monthly cost from Music & Arts)
Flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, percussion = $35 per month. Saxophone = $48 per month, French Horn = $71 per month, oboe = $58 per month.

CHORUS
-Classes meet every day all year during the school day.
-Students will learn how to read music.
-Students will learn proper vocal technique for performing in a choral ensemble.
-We will have at least two concerts at the school during the year as well as other performance opportunities outside of the school.
-Students will have the opportunity to audition/participate in NC Honors Chorus and NC All State Chorus.

-Classes meet during the school day every day for the 1st semester and then switch to the other class for the 2nd semester.

Art Requirements
- $0.50 or poster board to make an art portfolio
- Participation in showing artwork in Art Walk
Tech
-Students learn:

-Student projects include:
- Hot Air Balloons
- Balsa Wood Bridges
- Straw Rockets
- Electric Circuits
