At EWMS we are committed to encouraging students to read outside of the work assigned in class. Students are expected to read 20 minutes nightly. To help encourage students to read on their own, we participate in Reading Counts. Reading Counts is a program that helps students pick books that are on their reading level and based on their interests. The main goal of CHAMPION reading is for students to read on their own and reach the ”milestones” at their own pace. The focus is on the number of words read. It is not required.
Below you will find the basic requirements of the program and answers to many of the questions you may have.
Students will spell the word CHAMPION
125,000 - C

What can I do if there isn't a quiz for the book my student is reading?
What times of the day can a quiz be taken at school?
Quizzes can be taken in the morning before school. Teachers may allow other times on an individual basis.
Why can quizzes only be taken between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.?
These are times set by Scholastic (the company that sponsors Reading Counts). No one at EWMS has the ability to change these times.
Where can I find out the number of words for the book my student is reading?
